Move Mountain View was started in 2016 with the goal of bringing faith communities, non-profits and government agencies together to combat the effects of the growing crisis of homelessness in Mountain View and surrounding cities. Rapidly rising rents and a general lack of affordable housing in the area have exacerbated the problem since Move was started.
The most pressing need that arose was the problem of people living in their vehicles. This population of homeless are different from any the world has experienced before. Most are employed, many would be considered middle-class, yet the cost of living has left them with few alternatives. In response, Move Mountain View began our first program, Lots of Love, a partnership between faith communities, the Community Services Agency, and Santa Clara County and the City of Mountain View that allows safe, stable overnight parking to people living in vehicles.
