SAFE PARKING

Every person deserves a place to stay that is safe and secure.

Who do we serve?

We serve Santa Clara County community members that live in their vehicles due to a combination of challenges. A majority of our program participants are neighbors who have wrestled with affording Bay Area housing due to medical hardships, loss of job or reduction in work hours, or other unexpected financial hurdles.

They are our neighbors that need a consistent temporary place to park, while they work on transitioning and improving their well being for the next step.

 FAQs

  • The Safe Parking Program helps individuals and families who are living in their vehicles by providing a safe and secure place to sleep seven days a week. Lots are only permitted for program participants, staff, and approved volunteers. Each parking lot provides access to bathrooms and hand washing stations. There is 24/7 security that drives through all of our parking lots, as well as staff that monitors the lots daily.

MOVE MV manages 7 different parking lots with different rules and requirements regarding hours, pets, and qualifications. Rules and requirements may differentiate due to our contract with the owner of the property.

  • We screen each applicant through an extensive intake with both our parking lot managers and case managers for verification for qualifications.

Due to limited space capacity, MOVE Mountain View prioritizes Mountain View and Palo Alto residents. We also prioritize Santa Clara County applicants that are disabled or senior citizens. All program participants must agree to our program rules and have to be committed to working towards housing.

  • All vehicles on the parking lot must have insurance before moving into our program. We also need a valid California Driver’s License and vehicle’s registration.

If an applicant has any problems obtaining these documents, they can contact our office for a referral for assistance.

  • All MOVE Mountain View program participants use our safe parking services for free. Our safe parking lots are a temporary shelter and not considered to be a housing rental.

Program participants can remain in our safe parking as long as they continue to follow program rules and actively seek for permanent housing.

  • Everyone has a different timeline. Clients renew their contract month to month with their assigned case manager. This means all clients are required to participate in housing case management and actively work towards permanent housing. The length of time in the program will depend on one’s efforts and the resources available.

  • When you apply for the program, your application is put directly into our waitlist. The length of time varies depending on vacancies. We unfortunately do not have a direct answer, but feel free to call our office to check on your application status.
